A California law enforcement official said on January 22 that a gunman believed to have killed 10 people during a Lunar New Year celebration in California shot himself as police approached to arrest him.
A manhunt for the gunman began late on January 22 after a man opened fire inside a dance studio and club in Monterey Park, a predominantly Asian city near Los Angeles.
Eyewitnesses said that the man fired on sight and that it contained several bullets.
Five men and five women, all in their 50s or 60s, died and 10 others were injured, police said.
The person believed to be the shooter was identified as 72-year-old Huk Tran.
He said he went to another dance club not far away, but people at the club took the gun from him before he ran away.
